South Imenti NG-CDF officially launched the 2025/2026 bursary programme on 5th May 2026 at the South Imenti NG-CDF Hall. The event brought together education stakeholders, government officials, parents, guardians and beneficiaries to mark the commencement of bursary support for learners across the constituency.
The launch was presided over by Hon. Dr. Shadrack Mwiti,and attended by members of the NG-CDF Committee, Fund Manager Ms. Peggy Karanja, Deputy County Commissioner Zuhura R. Mambo, Sub-County Education Officer Ambrose Lekoitip, school principals, parents and students.
A total of KSh 36,625,668.80 has been allocated towards bursary support for the 2025/2026 financial year. The allocation will benefit 5,920 learners, including 4,170 secondary school students, 842 college students and 908 university students.
The bursary programme targets needy students, orphans and learners living with disabilities to ensure that financial challenges do not hinder access to education.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Dr. Shadrack Mwiti reiterated the importance of investing in education and called upon beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies.
Fund Manager Ms. Peggy Karanja briefed attendees on the bursary application and vetting process and assured parents that disbursement of funds to schools would be undertaken in accordance with NG-CDF regulations. She also encouraged beneficiaries and parents to collect their bursary award letters promptly to avoid delays in processing.
Deputy County Commissioner Zuhura R. Mambo commended the NG-CDF Committee for prioritizing education and supporting vulnerable learners within the constituency. She urged parents and guardians to continue working closely with schools to ensure learners fully benefit from the programme.
Sub-County Education Officer Ambrose Lekoitip noted that the bursary support would go a long way in easing the burden of school fees on families and enhancing student retention in schools and institutions of higher learning.
During the event, bursary award letters were issued to beneficiaries, marking the beginning of the disbursement process. Funds will be remitted directly to the respective learning institutions.
Despite the success of the programme, several challenges were highlighted, including the high number of applicants compared to available funds, delays in submission of fee structures by some institutions, difficulties in verifying household economic status and limited awareness of application timelines among some parents.
To enhance future bursary programmes, stakeholders recommended increased funding allocations, wider dissemination of beneficiary information and the adoption of digital application systems to improve efficiency.
The event concluded successfully with beneficiaries receiving their award letters. The NG-CDF Committee reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fairness and accountability in the management of bursary funds, in line with the provisions of the NG-CDF Act, 2015.
